Jen Poirier, LCMHC
(She/Her)
I work exclusively with queer and neurodivergent couples to help untangle conflict, explore the challenges of being wired differently, and to move through disconnection.
My work is informed by attachment-relational based approaches. I believe lasting growth and connection in relationships comes through new emotional experiences, not simply learning communication skills, techniques or changing behaviors. I help partners understand the deeper attachment needs, protective patterns, and relational wounds that keep them stuck. While practical strategies can be helpful, meaningful change happens by transforming the emotional experience between partners. By experiencing one another in new ways, creating deeper trust, curiosity, and emotional safety.
I honor neurodivergence as a form of diversity—not a deficit, and understand the very unique ways it can impact communication, intimacy, understanding, and capacity.
I welcome established and newly out couples. My practice is also strength-based: we focus not just on what’s hard or not working, but on what’s trying to work.
I am inspired by methods such as trauma-informed, strength-based, attachment theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and feminist approaches.
About
I enjoy spending time with my three young adult children and my spouse, especially traveling. To nurture my own well-being, I love time in nature, love gardening, have been a cyclist for many years, enjoy reading, art, and music, and make sure to connect with the important people in my life.
